New Vibe Incoming
The Singapore Media Festival (SMF) is officially entering its main character era. Hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), this year’s festival—running December 1–5—is adding a brand-new Asia Creator Summit (ACS) to its lineup. It’s sitting right alongside the legendary Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF), and the whole vibe is all about helping creators secure the bag and scale their business into actual, lasting empires.
Create, Monetize, Scale
If you’re looking to get that bread, the ACS (happening Dec 4–5) is basically a masterclass in turning internet clout into a career. With 20+ sessions, you’ll be hearing from absolute heavy hitters. We’re talking about South Korean creator Kimpro (who has 130 million subscribers and over 154 billion views) and Japanese creator Issei, known for his iconic dialogue-free comedy. AJ Eckstein, the brains behind Creator Match, will also be there to drop some knowledge.
Beyond the talk, they’re putting their money where their mouth is. The Mandarin Oriental is hosting a Creator Pitch Challenge, and Bloomr.SG’s “Creator Lab” is handing out up to SGD100,000 (about $78,000) to creators with the best ideas. Keep your eyes peeled for those proposal calls in early November.
The AI Takeover
The festival isn’t just about the creators; it’s going all-in on the future of tech. The Asia TV Forum is introducing “The AI Era | Entertainment Reimagined,” a dedicated zone focusing on how AI is flipping the script on content creation, IP rights, and regulation. They’re even hosting an AI Hackathon, so expect some serious innovation on display.
Why it matters
Creators are officially the new gatekeepers of pop culture. By carving out a massive, formal space for them alongside traditional TV giants, the Singapore Media Festival is acknowledging that the future of content is decentralized, digital, and frankly, a total W for creators looking to level up.
