The Winter Soldier speaks

If you're already stressing about who makes it out alive in the next Marvel blockbuster, you're not alone. Sebastian Stan, our favorite Bucky Barnes, just dropped some intel on Avengers: Doomsday, and honestly? The vibes are off. In a chat with Decider, Stan admitted he hasn't actually seen the finished product yet, but he has a feeling it’s going to be "probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways."

He added, "We’ll see who makes it to the next level," which is, like, a super ominous thing to say. No cap, the nostalgia of reuniting with the Marvel crew after all these years has been hitting different. Stan noted that the cast has truly become a family, but even he is keeping us on our toes regarding the actual story.

Why the plot is a mystery

If you're confused about what’s actually going down, you’re in good company. Alan Cumming, who is back as Nightcrawler, lowkey admitted to SiriusXM that he doesn't fully understand the plot either, mostly because he spent so much time acting in front of a blue screen.

It sounds like this level of mystery is totally by design. Co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been treating the script like a "living organism," relying heavily on improv and rehearsal to build the magic. Joe Russo told the Associated Press that they like to see what actors bring to the characters, sometimes keeping the script fluid right up until the cameras start rolling.

Why it matters

Marvel movies are notorious for being kept under lock and key, but the Avengers: Doomsday production seems to be on a whole new level of secrecy and spontaneity. Between the cast being in the dark and the directors keeping the script a moving target, it's giving major suspense energy. With the film hitting theaters on December 18, we have a few months to brace ourselves for what’s likely to be a massive emotional L.
