Things took a serious turn for a sailor off the coast of Southern California this week. After their 25-foot sailboat ran aground on Santa Rosa Island—part of the Channel Islands National Park—the Coast Guard had to step in for an emergency rescue.
Around 12:20 p.m. last Thursday, Sept. 24, officials got the distress call that the boat was stranded along the shoreline. It’s giving major 'wrong place, wrong time' vibes.
The Rescue
Rescue crews didn't play around. They deployed a helicopter to the scene, airlifting the sailor from the island and flying them over to Camarillo Airport. Once there, the Ventura County Fire Department stepped in to evaluate them. Thankfully, the Coast Guard confirmed that a local towing company later hauled the boat off the shore and brought it to Ventura Harbor.
