It’s giving major spy thriller vibes, but for real. Teddy Young, a 24-year-old serving member of the Royal Navy from Bedfordshire, has been charged under the U.K.’s National Security Act. He was taken into custody on October 6th at his home by Counter Terrorism Policing London (CTPL).
The charges
The investigation, which led to Young being charged, centers on allegations that he obtained information with the intent to help a foreign power. Officials say the alleged activities went down between November 26, 2024, and May 21 of last year.
Official response
Cmdr Helen Flanagan, the head of CTPL, didn't mince words, stating: “These are very serious charges against a serving member of the armed forces.” The team has been working on the low-down with the Ministry of Defence to make sure any risks were handled properly.
Authorities also confirmed that this case is totally separate from the recent incident at RAF Fairford. The plot thickens, but for now, the investigation is ongoing.
Why it matters
National security cases involving military personnel are always high-stakes. While we don’t know which foreign power is involved yet, it’s a big deal when someone on the inside is accused of handing over sensitive intel, making this a major L for the department's internal security.
