Things are officially getting heated in the Sunflower State. With the November 3 election right around the corner, Republicans are officially spiraling over Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall’s campaign.

The shake-up

To stop the bleeding, the campaign has tapped veteran strategist Chris Grant as a senior adviser. Grant is a major Trump-world player—he helped lead the main pro-Trump super PAC in 2024—and he’s being brought in to help "land the plane" in the final three weeks.

Why the sudden move? GOP operatives are highkey frustrated. They think Marshall hasn’t been aggressive enough, especially considering how much soaring fuel prices are hurting local farmers. Marshall is currently running neck and neck with Democrat Adam Hamilton, even though Kansas is a state where Trump won by 16 points in 2024.

The cash flow

The Senate Leadership Fund is dropping a massive $14 million into the race to save the seat, shifting that money away from North Carolina. Meanwhile, a Democrat-aligned super PAC is dropping $5 million for Hamilton.

It’s not just the polling that’s a headache; Marshall has been dealing with some messy headlines recently. A New York Times report revealed his medical practice sued over 700 former patients for unpaid bills, leading to 81 of them getting arrested for missing court dates. On the flip side, Hamilton, a Methodist pastor, has managed to snag endorsements from two former Republican governors, Mike Hayden and Bill Graves.

Why it matters

This race is a major vibe check for the GOP. If they lose Kansas, it could be the start of a domino effect that costs them their Senate majority. Real talk: the party is scrambling because they can't afford any more Ls this close to the finish line.
