Listen, we all want to see the ultimate DC crossover, but Robert Pattinson is officially shutting down the dream of seeing his version of Bruce Wayne hanging out in the cinematic world built by James Gunn. In a chat with LADbible, Pattinson kept it real about why his Batman simply doesn't fit the current DCU aesthetic.
“I think it would be kind of tough to have this version of Bruce outside of that world,” Pattinson shared. For him, it’s all about the commitment to the bit. He explained that filming Matt Reeves’ The Batman is a total mood-altering experience. "You’re just in the dark the whole time. Both mood-wise and light-wise, I can’t see anything for like months. It does affect you, like you feel strange afterwards."
The contrast is real
If you’ve seen both films, you know the vibes are completely different. While Matt Reeves’ 2022 The Batman went for a super dark, grit-heavy aesthetic, James Gunn’s 2025 Superman leaned into something way more lighthearted and loopy. It’s a total genre shift, and Pattinson clearly wants to keep his main character energy locked in the shadows of Gotham rather than the bright skies of Metropolis.

With The Batman Part II dropping on February 18, 2028, fans can rest easy knowing that the franchise is sticking to its guns. Pattinson’s comments confirm that despite all the comic book history, his specific, somber iteration of the caped crusader is doing its own thing, no cap. Sometimes, letting a character exist in its own separate, dark lane is just the move.
