The drama is peaking
Real Madrid is officially over it. The 15-time European champions just demanded that La Liga president Javier Tebas step down after he made a wild comparison between the club’s behavior and Nazi propaganda.
The receipts
It all went down on Friday when Tebas took to social media to call out Real Madrid’s TV channel. The channel has been airing reels highlighting what they claim are bad calls by referees who are set to officiate upcoming matches.
In his post, Tebas claimed, “The executive of Real Madrid has an orchestra of mouthpieces... It reminds one of the propaganda techniques that Goebbels used,” referring to Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi minister of propaganda. He made sure to clarify he was talking about the tactics, not the ideology or the fans, but the damage was already done.
The clapback
Real Madrid didn’t hold back in their response, calling Tebas unfit for his role. They dropped a statement declaring that his lack of neutrality is a "genuine scourge for Spanish football" and demanded his "immediate resignation." This isn't their first rodeo, either—they pushed for him to quit back in September after he criticized their response to a tough loss against Atlético Madrid.
Meanwhile, the club is still lowkey frustrated that Tebas hasn't taken enough action regarding the ongoing judicial probe into Barcelona’s alleged payments to a refereeing committee official.
Why it matters
The tension between the league's top club and its president is at an all-time high, creating serious instability for Spanish football. As these institutional clashes continue to play out in public, the plot thickens for the future of La Liga’s leadership.
