The Table Shake-Up
Seven weeks into the Premier League season and the vibes are honestly all over the place. Preseason rust is officially dead, and it’s become lowkey clear that there are way more average-to-poor teams than usual. The league is currently a jumbled mess of teams bouncing around the table, but some squads are finally beginning to stand out from the noise.
Manchester City is currently sitting in first place—despite the financial breach cloud hanging over them—and they’re joined by Arsenal as the absolute cream of the crop. Liverpool and Chelsea are holding steady in that tier just below, while almost everyone else is stuck in a massive midtable muddle.
The Risers and Fallers
Brighton and Hove Albion? Highkey the main character energy of the season. They absolutely demolished Crystal Palace 5-0 this past weekend and are consistently proving they belong near the top. Meanwhile, Aston Villa is finally waking up. After a rough start, they’re digging themselves out of the hole, and we’re expecting them to start climbing the rankings fast.
On the flip side, some teams are having a total "L" of a season. Tottenham Hotspur is the only team left without a win, and Crystal Palace is looking ROUGH—they rank dead last in expected goal differential and just got thrashed by Brighton. It’s giving relegation battle energy for a huge chunk of the league, with teams like Fulham, Hull City, and Newcastle United all scrambling to figure it out.
Why it matters
With so many teams stuck in the same mediocre middle, every single point matters right now. The difference between a solid midtable finish and a relegation scrap is razor-thin, and these next few weeks will decide who actually has the squad depth to stay up.
