The Collapse
The Philadelphia Eagles are officially in their flop era. After cruising with a 20-10 lead against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4, the team absolutely fumbled the bag. With under eight minutes left, the Eagles were sitting on the 2-yard line with a 3.2% chance for the Rams to win, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. Then, the plot thickens. Jalen Hurts got stuffed on the "Tush Push," and the offense spiraled. They lost 14 yards across their final two drives while Kyren Williams ran wild to secure the win for LA.
Stats That Don't Lie
Real talk: this was a historic L. The Eagles were 41-0 with Hurts when leading by double digits in the final five minutes—until now. It’s the first time they’ve dropped a game like this since 2018. The offensive output was straight-up mid. They finished with 172 total yards, their lowest in 12 years, and a pathetic 68 net passing yards. Most alarming? They went 0-for-12 on third downs. That’s the worst performance in the league this decade, no cap.
What's Wrong?
Injuries definitely hit the vibes—stars like Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Landon Dickerson, and Lane Johnson were all sidelined. But the scheme is also a major problem. Offensive coordinator Sean Mannion is trying to run a Shanahan-McVay style offense, but the team is dead last in play-action rate and bottom-five in lining up under center. Head coach Nick Sirianni admitted it was a rough day at the office, but Hurts is taking the blame, saying, "Poor execution. I don't think there's any other way to put it."
Why it matters
The Eagles are now the worst second-half offense in the NFL, having gone scoreless after halftime for two straight weeks. If Sirianni doesn't let Mannion fully unlock his playbook—and get the starters healthy—the Eagles are looking at a serious risk of missing the playoffs entirely.
