The W comes at a cost
The Green Bay Packers secured a clutch 17-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday, but the win is lowkey overshadowed by some gutting news. The team is currently bracing for the reality that star linebacker Edgerrin Cooper likely suffered a torn Achilles tendon.
While the injury is still being fully evaluated, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed after the game that Cooper’s status is "not good," adding that he suspects the injury will end the playmaker's season right here.
Cooper’s breakout run
It’s a massive blow to the team. The 24-year-old has been absolute fire on the field this year. After racking up 205 total tackles across his first two seasons, Cooper was already crushing it this year with 30 tackles and three sacks through just three-and-a-half games. Before being carted off on Sunday, he had already put up nine tackles and a sack. He was literally building main character energy every single week.
Why it matters
With this win, Green Bay climbs to a 2-2 record as they head into a tough matchup against the 3-1 Bears next week. Losing a defensive anchor like Cooper is a major L for the Pack’s momentum, and the defense is going to have to make some serious adjustments to fill that void. Real talk, the season just got a lot harder.
