The ultimate endurance test
Get ready to stan, because BBC Radio 2 host Owain Wyn Evans is about to enter his endurance era. The Ammanford native is gearing up to cycle across all four UK nations for this year’s BBC Children in Need fundraiser.
Starting in Glasgow and pedaling his way to Cardiff, Evans is set to cover almost 400 miles over five days. The challenge kicks off on November 9 and wraps up on November 13, just in time for the big broadcast. According to the BBC, this marks the "greatest ever distance" any Radio 2 host has attempted for the charity. No cap, that is some serious main character energy.
Big shoes to fill
Evans isn't going into this blind. He’s got the backing of sports scientist Prof Greg Whyte, who has previously coached other Radio 2 icons like Sara Cox through their own physical feats. Evans noted that he’s feeling the pressure to live up to the legendary efforts of Sara Cox, Paddy McGuinness, and Vernon Kay.
"When I said yes to this challenge, I knew it would push me well outside my comfort zone," Evans said. "It's going to be tough, demanding and probably a little daunting at times, but I'm ready to give it absolutely everything I've got."
Radio 2 boss Helen Thomas thanked Evans for "picking up the Pudsey backpack baton," while the rest of the 2026 hosting lineup remains mostly under wraps, save for fellow Welsh legend Alex Jones.
