The vibes at the University of Mississippi are officially off right now. A freshman student, Mary Harvey, is speaking out after she claims she was spiked while out watching the Ole Miss Rebels football game against LSU this past Saturday.
Harvey says she has absolutely zero memory of the night after the game ended. According to her, she was eventually found passed out in her dorm hallway by her roommate after going "missing" for a period. She took to social media to share the scary experience, and honestly, the real tea is that it’s left the student body terrified.
A campus in crisis
This incident comes at a time when the 28,400-strong student population is already dealing with a major tragedy. Two male students—aged 18 and 20—were recently found dead in separate locations, one on campus and one off-campus.
Students like biology sophomore Jay Van Dyke are admitting they're lowkey scared to even leave their rooms, telling reporters it’s hard to know what’s safe anymore. Another student, Raven Tunstall, echoed the sentiment, calling the losses a "big shock" and noting that college is supposed to be about making memories, not losing lives.
What we know about the deaths
While investigators found packaged kratom at the scenes, Lafayette County Metro Narcotics has stated they don't have confirmation that it or any other substance caused the deaths yet. Toxicology results are expected in the next two to three weeks. In the meantime, officials are urging everyone to play it safe and steer clear of any substances that aren't prescribed or from a trusted source.
Dr. Shawnboda Mead, the university’s vice chancellor for student affairs, said the school is "heartbroken" by the losses.

Safety is a non-negotiable, and when the community stops feeling secure, it’s a massive L for the college experience. With students feeling like they can't trust their surroundings, the administration is under huge pressure to figure out what happened and restore some sense of peace on campus.
