The Vibe Check
Week 5 is officially here and the season is giving major main character energy. We’ve seen 23 one-score games in just two weeks, which is tied for the most in NFL history. Talk about a nail-biter. With 18 games decided by a score in the final four minutes or overtime already, the drama is real.
Big Matchups on Deck
CBS Sports writers Jordan Dajani and Jared Dubin broke down the biggest games. Lines were pulled from DraftKings on Oct. 6.
Eagles vs. Jaguars (London)
The Eagles are lowkey spiraling. After blowing a 10-point lead against the Rams, they also lost right tackle Lane Johnson to retirement and traded Cam Jurgens to the Ravens. Plus, injuries are stacking up for Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith. Dajani is taking the Jaguars 27-18, while Dubin thinks the Eagles can keep it close, predicting a 23-17 Jacksonville win.
49ers vs. Seahawks
This one is the game of the week. Brock Purdy is balling out—he’s the first player ever to start a season 4-0 with one or fewer combined sacks, fumbles, or interceptions. Dajani is calling a 24-23 upset for the Niners, but Dubin is rocking with Seattle 24-21, citing the Seahawks' defensive strength.
Falcons vs. Ravens
Michael Penix Jr. is looking comfortable, and Bijan Robinson is elite, averaging 153.5 total yards per game. With Lamar Jackson’s status for the Ravens uncertain, both experts are currently backing the Falcons at -3.5.
Steelers vs. Colts & Packers vs. Bears
For the Steelers-Colts clash, Dajani likes Pittsburgh 24-17 thanks to their historical home-field dominance against Indy, while Dubin is taking the Colts 20-16. Meanwhile, the Packers-Bears game has everyone feeling skeptical, with Dajani predicting a weird 21-20 win for Green Bay and Dubin calling a 23-20 victory for Chicago.
Why it matters
We’re five weeks in and the playoff race is already getting spicy. With backup QBs taking over and star players sidelined, team depth is being put to the ultimate test. If your favorite squad hasn't figured it out yet, they need to—the season is moving fast.
