If you thought you were having a rough weekend dealing with the nor'easter, someone in Surf City, New Jersey, lowkey had it worse. A local resident caught a shark swimming right through the floodwaters near their driveway on Saturday. The clip, which hit the internet after being obtained by ABC News, shows a dorsal fin clearly cutting through the water, leaving everyone who saw it completely shook.
Is it a threat?
Real talk: before you spiral, the situation isn't as terrifying as it sounds. Dr. Greg Skomal, a white shark expert with the Massachusetts division of Marine Fisheries, confirmed the creature is a dogfish. These are common in the area and, more importantly, they are basically harmless and don't even have sharp teeth. The shark likely ended up in the resident's yard after Barnegat Bay overflowed, flooding the area with as much as four feet of water.
Why it matters
The shark sighting is just one bizarre highlight of a chaotic weekend. This nor'easter brought 70 mph winds and major flooding to the East Coast, leaving thousands without power. It’s giving total disaster movie vibes, but at least the local wildlife isn't trying to start anything.
