The perfect shot
Real talk: we all love a good aesthetic moment, but Mirna Abass just took it to another level. Abass is an agricultural engineer living in Damietta, Egypt, but his heart is clearly in photography. While wandering through Ezbet El Borg—a literal hub of colorful boats and fishing life—he was hunting for his own version of a 'decisive moment,' a concept famously coined by the legendary Henri Cartier-Bresson.
The grind
Abass was out on a walk with the Egyptian Camera Crew when he spotted a teenage fisher moving between boats. Instead of just snapping a random pic, he set up his iPhone 13, framed the shot between two contrasting vessels, and waited. And waited. He was lowkey hoping the teen would jump right into the frame.
When the fisher finally leaped from a white boat to a more colorful one, Abass secured the shot. It’s giving main character energy, right? Abass shared that the human element really highlights the massive scale of the ships, noting, 'It is almost as if he is escaping from pale life to fruitful life.'
Why it matters
This is a friendly reminder that you don't need a massive pro rig to capture something meaningful. Sometimes the best art comes from having a vision, a little bit of patience, and just being ready when the moment happens. Next time you're out, maybe don't just scroll—keep your eyes peeled for your own 'decisive moment.' Say less.
