The money chase

House Speaker Mike Johnson is currently pulling in cash like it’s a full-time sport. He just dropped the numbers for Q3, showing $30 million raised, which brings his total cycle haul to a staggering $156 million. Real talk: that is the highest amount any Republican speaker or leader has ever racked up at this point in an election cycle.

Spreading the wealth

It’s not just sitting in a bank account, though. Johnson has already funneled over $91 million to various Republican committees, candidates, and state parties. The biggest chunk—$46 million—went to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), with another $21.5 million sent directly to sitting GOP members and $7 million to challengers. Since taking the gavel back in October 2023, his operation has generated over $220 million for the cause.

The vibe check

When Johnson first started, people were lowkey nervous he wouldn't be able to match the fundraising energy of his predecessor. Safe to say he’s silenced that noise. He’s been on a massive tour, hitting over 40 districts across 22 states to keep the momentum high.

"We are focused on getting unprecedented resources to the Districts that will decide the majority," Johnson said in a statement to Axios. "With this continued momentum, we are in place to defy history and defend the House to save America from the far-left!"

Why it matters

Republicans currently have a cash advantage—the NRCC finished August with $13 million more on hand than their Democratic counterparts—but the actual battlefield is shifting. Despite the war chest, analysts at the Cook Political Report and Sabato's Crystal Ball have both moved over a dozen races toward Democrats recently. Even in districts that went for Trump in 2024, the plot thickens as the race for the House majority enters the final stretch.
