The Marina Bay Takeover
Max Verstappen is highkey in his bag right now. The Red Bull star absolutely crushed it at the Singapore GP, securing pole position after already snagging a win in the sprint race earlier today. He clocked a 1:31.373 in Q3, finding the limit on that tight street circuit with pure precision. It’s giving main character energy.
The Title Race Drama
Real talk: the vibes are currently off for George Russell. After dealing with engine failures, Russell wiped out in the sprint after a silly error at the final corner. He’s now starting from the back of the grid on Sunday due to penalties, and his teammate Kimi Antonelli—who placed fourth in quali—has extended his championship lead to 89 points. The gap is widening, and the plot is definitely thickening for the Mercedes squad.
Sprint Struggles
Drivers were lowkey hating on the decision to host a sprint on a city track. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc both called it out, with Hamilton noting it would’ve been boring asf if it had been dry. The sprint ended in some chaos, though, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri clashing on the final lap, effectively taking Piastri out and dropping Norris to eighth. Verstappen kept his cool, controlled the pace, and secured his 50th career pole—his first ever in Singapore.
Why it matters
Verstappen’s recent upgrades have turned the Red Bull into a total beast, and he’s now in a prime spot to tick off one of the two tracks where he has yet to grab a GP win. With Russell starting dead last, this weekend is looking like a major W for Verstappen’s season momentum.
