The scene unfolded
It’s giving absolute chaos in Lynnwood, Washington. This past Tuesday, right around 12:25 p.m., a group of masked suspects decided to pull a straight-up heist at Medina Jewelers. Surveillance footage shows a crew circling the lot before a white Toyota Tacoma literally barreled through the front of the store.
The takedown
After shattering the storefront, the suspects rushed inside—some wielding axes. But the store owner was ready. He grabbed a gun and started firing, which sent the would-be thieves scrambling back to their vehicles empty-handed. No injuries were reported, though police are still trying to figure out if any of the suspects were actually hit during the shootout. The group managed to escape in a black BMW SUV and a silver Toyota or Infiniti sedan.
Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Joe Dickenson noted that the incident was "pretty rare" for the area and acknowledged it was a major shock for pedestrians who were out during the day. Detectives are currently hunting for leads, so if you have any info, shoot them an email at crimetips@lynnwoodwa.gov with case number 2026-37986.
Why it matters
Real talk: seeing a car crash through a building in broad daylight is lowkey terrifying. This highlights how intense organized retail theft has become, but it also shows that business owners are increasingly taking matters into their own hands to protect their livelihood.
