The Future is Calling
If you thought Paris Fashion Week was just about the fits, Nicolas Ghesquière just proved it’s also about the climate, no cap. For the latest Louis Vuitton show, the designer turned the Louvre’s inner courtyard into a literal sci-fi movie set. We’re talking 34 flying cars decked out in that iconic Damier check, hovering on stilts above the catwalk as models strutted by.
It was 24C in Paris at sunset, and the heat was highkey the inspiration. Ghesquière admitted that the record-breaking temps this summer totally shifted his focus. "The world is getting warmer," he shared. "We need to think differently, for clothes to be relevant today and in the future."
Shifting the Silhouette
Usually, Ghesquière is the king of structured, armor-like pieces, but he totally pivoted. We saw breezy tunics, silk slip dresses, and layers of chiffon designed for comfort in the heat. It’s giving effortless chic while staying climate-conscious. The look was rounded out with silver beaded fringes on the models that sat somewhere between futuristic hair extensions and sun visors. Zendaya and Bella Maclean were spotted in the crowd, definitely passing the vibe check.
A Royal Moment
As if a massive flying-car runway wasn't enough, Ghesquière just had the biggest week of his life. On Friday, President Emmanuel Macron officially knighted him at the Élysée Palace for his massive contribution to the French creative scene. Macron even made a playful joke about his wife, First Lady Brigitte Macron, being so close to the designer, saying she considers him the "second man in her life." Talk about a W.
Why it matters
Louis Vuitton is the flagship of the LVMH empire, which adds about 1% to the entire French GDP. When Ghesquière talks about the future of fashion in a warming world, the industry listens—and watching him blend high-tech production with serious environmental awareness shows that luxury is definitely evolving.
