The situation so far

If your timeline has been spiraling over the $87 million drain that hit crypto users recently, here is the real talk: Ledger has officially confirmed that all cases tracked so far trace back to devices purchased through the reseller CryptoBilis. If you copped your hardware wallet directly from Ledger, the company says your security remains intact. CryptoBilis has since ceased all hardware wallet sales while the investigation goes down.

The on-chain forensic deep dive

On-chain sleuths have been working overtime. Investigator Specter flagged over $86 million in losses across Ethereum, Tron, and Bitcoin. Meanwhile, investigators at YFarmX claim they’ve identified over 450 drained wallets. The thief has been active, pushing 2,810 ETH through the Tornado Cash mixer and moving assets through Zcash’s shielded pool to try and mask the trail. While Tether managed to freeze 10 million USDT, other assets—including 15,475 ETH, 203 BTC, and 10 million USDD—are still out in the wild. Real talk: don't get reckless—if you bought from an unauthorized reseller, the vibes are definitely off.

Safety protocol

Ledger is stressing that if you bought from CryptoBilis, do NOT set up that device. If you already have, move your funds immediately to a fresh, secure device with a new seed phrase. And remember, the oldest rule in the book: no legit team will ever DM you or ask for your 24-word recovery phrase. Anyone asking for that is a massive red flag. Stay vigilant, keep your keys off-chain when possible, and remember that this is never financial advice.

Why it matters

This situation is a major wake-up call regarding supply chain security in crypto. It’s highkey proof that where you buy your hardware matters just as much as the security features on the device itself. Always stick to official channels to avoid getting rekt by tampered tech.
