Traveling can be a headache, but for one passenger at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) this month, the experience ended in a straight-up arrest. The plot thickens when you realize it all started because of an Xbox.
The discovery
It all went down during standard screening. The passenger’s bag triggered an alarm, and TSA Officer Ashley Leo moved the bag over to the resolution area. That's where Supervisory Transportation Security Officer Christopher Ramos took over the search.
While checking the bag, Ramos found a plastic bag stashed right next to the Xbox. Inside? A collection of fake IDs. The kicker: every single one of the driver’s licenses had a different name and class type, but the exact same photo. Real talk—that’s lowkey the worst way to try and get away with something.
Why it matters
After the IDs were flagged, the TSA team pulled in airport management and Port Authority police. The passenger was arrested right before their flight was supposed to take off. TSA LGA Federal Security Director John Essig noted that this is exactly why their security layers exist—to make sure everyone in the secure area is actually who they say they are. It’s a major L for the traveler who thought a gaming console would be the perfect hiding spot.
