The casting tea
If you've been obsessing over the Maple Hills universe, say less—the wait for the Icebreaker leads is officially over. Netflix has tapped Daisy Jelley and Connor Simos to play our favorite chaotic skating duo, Anastasia “Stassie” Allen and Nate Hawkins.
Jelley is basically a Netflix veteran at this point, having already graced our screens in Geek Girl and the film How to Have Sex. Meanwhile, this is going to be the big break for Simos, who is also set to star in the upcoming thriller Subversion alongside Chris Hemsworth and Lily James.
The plot
For the uninitiated, Icebreaker follows Stassie, an elite skater gunning for Olympic gold, and Nate, a total campus star captaining the hockey team. When a rink mishap forces their worlds to collide, their professional tension lowkey morphs into major main character energy. It’s giving enemies-to-lovers in the best way possible.
Behind the scenes
The show is being spearheaded by creator Jade Halley Bartlett and showrunner Amanda Lasher. Unwell Productions’ Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre are also on board to executive produce, with the author herself, Hannah Grace, joining them.
Why it matters
This adaptation has huge shoes to fill. The OG book stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for a wild 70 consecutive weeks and has sold nearly 5 million copies globally. Given how much the internet has been loving hockey-romance tropes lately—between the success of Heated Rivalry and Amazon’s Off Campus—this show is clearly about to be the moment. It’s honestly a massive W for fans who have been waiting to see if Netflix can pull off another Bridgerton-level adaptation.
