Greece levels up on crypto compliance
Big moves for the Mediterranean crypto scene. Greece has officially entered the European Union’s MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) registry for the first time. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) just updated the list, welcoming four Greek providers: BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, Capital Wallet Greece, and Piraeus Bank.
They aren't alone. Six other providers from Germany, France, and Slovenia also jumped on board, bringing the total number of MiCA-registered entities to 359. It’s highkey a win for transparency, but remember: regulatory approval is about compliance, not an endorsement of your bags. Always do your own research before parking your capital.
The plot thickens on Binance
This update follows a wild rumor cycle involving Binance. The world's largest exchange by volume pulled its application back in June before the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) made an official call. Later, reports surfaced claiming that European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde intervened to block the deal, allegedly pressuring Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to pump the brakes.
The HCMC is now going on the record to say that story is total noise. In a statement to Cointelegraph, the regulator said it "categorically rejects" those claims. They confirmed that no official had any communication with the ECB regarding Binance, and they denied that any HCMC rep ever told Binance that Lagarde blocked the bid.
How Greece splits the bill
Greece is getting creative with its oversight. The HCMC is the primary authority for BCash, Xenios, and Capital Wallet, while the Bank of Greece is taking point on Piraeus Bank. MiCA lets member states split the regulatory load like this, which is a big flex for their internal structure.
Why it matters
MiCA is turning into the ultimate rulebook for the European crypto space. Whether you’re a degen or a long-term hodler, watching these jurisdictions formalize their rules is essential—but keep in mind that regulatory status doesn't eliminate market risk. Stay safe and watch the charts.
