The recovery begins
Rock legend Glenn Hughes is officially on the mend, fam. The 75-year-old singer and bassist shared a heart-felt update on Instagram this Friday, confirming he’s back home after a heavy 10-hour open-heart surgery.
Hughes underwent an aortic valve replacement at the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles—the exact same procedure he had back in 2013. The rock icon spent eight days in the hospital, and he’s keeping it super grounded while he recovers. "Each day as I move forward, I am getting my energy back," Hughes wrote. "There is only love in my life. There are no mistakes."
Prioritizing health
If you’ve been following along, you know this wasn't an easy decision. Back in August, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer had to pull the plug on his touring career. After 50 years on the road, his medical team gave him the hard truth: he needed surgery, and he needed it now.
Even with such a major health hurdle, the man has main character energy when it comes to staying positive. He told fans that even when life feels like it's giving you the worst, you should be grateful for the journey because "there is a greater purpose to it."
The rock community shows love
Real talk: the outpouring of support has been huge. Legends like Rudy Sarzo, Frank Bello, and Alex Skolnick hopped into his comments to show some serious love. It’s clear that whether he’s rocking out with Deep Purple or Black Country Communion, he’s still a staple in the scene. Here’s to a speedy recovery—we’re rooting for you, Glenn!
Why it matters
Glenn Hughes is a living legend, and his transparency about prioritizing health over touring is a reminder that even the biggest stars have to put themselves first when things get real.
