Things took a wild turn in Fort Lauderdale this past Thursday when an Airbnb guest turned the tables on two people trying to rob their rental. Around 6 p.m., two armed men broke into the property and got into a physical confrontation with the renter, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
During the altercation, the unidentified guest pulled their own weapon and fired, hitting one of the alleged intruders, 18-year-old Dareon Pubien, in the chest. Pubien tried to dip from the scene on foot, but officers followed a trail of blood to find him nearby. He was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is currently in critical but stable condition.
Witness Arthur Butler Jr. told reporters he heard "at least 10" gunshots from across the street before seeing people fleeing the area. Pubien’s alleged accomplice, 25-year-old Sean Thompson, was also taken into custody. Both are now facing serious charges, including attempted felony murder and home invasion with a firearm. Thompson is being held without bond, while Pubien is set to face his arraignment once he's cleared to leave the hospital.
