The situation
Real talk: some people just never learn. Charles Ducking, a 76-year-old from Lake Wales, Florida, found himself in major trouble after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 27 in Waverly. A Polk County sheriff’s deputy noticed his car swerving, and once he got pulled over, the tea was spilled almost immediately.
What went down
Ducking didn't even try to hide it. When the deputy asked for his license, he allegedly straight-up admitted it was already suspended because of a previous DUI. He then pointed to a silver thermal cup in the car and told the deputy, "This here is my rum I'm drinking."
It gets worse. After searching the car, deputies found a container of cocaine, which Ducking allegedly claimed he had used just 10 minutes before the stop. His breath tests came back at .094 and .095—well over the legal limit of .08.
A history of issues
This isn't a one-off mistake. The deputy recognized Ducking from a DUI arrest in May. Since 2001, he has been arrested in Polk County nine other times. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd didn't hold back in his statement, saying, "He is lucky he hasn't yet killed someone or himself while driving drunk and high on drugs."
Ducking is now facing charges for a fourth (or subsequent) DUI, possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
