The vibe check
Google is officially expanding its wearable lineup with the new Fitbit Edge. Think of this as the middle child—it takes the slim, low-profile band energy of the Fitbit Air but adds an actual OLED display so you can check your maps, weather, music, and notifications without having to dig your phone out of your pocket.
What it does
Real talk: this thing is packed with sensors. It uses Google Health Coach, powered by Gemini, to crunch your fitness and medical data into personalized workout plans that actually pivot based on your daily schedule. Just a heads-up, you’ll need that Google Health Premium subscription to make it work.
It also sports the "Health Guardian" feature, which tracks long-term shifts in your health metrics, including indicators for blood pressure and insulin resistance. For the gym rats, it’s lowkey impressive: it automatically logs over 100 activities and gives you on-screen nudges to either push harder or chill out. Plus, the GPS is supposedly 40% more accurate than the last generation, and it’s water-resistant up to 50 meters.
Battery life is a major W, coming in at about seven days on a single charge.
Why it matters
If you’re deciding whether to go full smartwatch with the Pixel Watch or keep it minimal with the Air, the Edge is trying to be your main character. It hits that sweet spot of functionality without feeling like a brick on your wrist. Preorders are open now on the Google Store, and it hits physical shelves on October 27. Colors include Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon—plus a Stephen Curry Special Edition for $219.99 if you really want to lean into the athlete aesthetic.
