If you thought Amelia Dimoldenberg was just about awkward chicken shop dates, you haven't been paying attention. During her opening monologue on the Sept. 26 episode of Saturday Night Live UK, the legendary host decided to stir the pot regarding Ed Sheeran.
Reflecting on her 12-year run of interviews with everyone from Charli xcx to Paul McCartney, she dropped a classic bit. She joked about interviewing a "world-famous red-headed puppet with a hand up his a--," showing a pic of Elmo. But when the producers brought up a photo of Ed Sheeran, she immediately corrected them: "No, the other one." It’s giving main character energy, and we are obsessed.
Why is Sheeran in the headlines?
This isn't the first time SNL UK has come for the singer. The show previously parodied him as a "fence-sitter" caught between humans and AI. The heat stems from his ongoing Loop Tour, which hit a snag after Macklemore was removed from the U.S. leg.
Macklemore was pulled after his performances at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on Sept. 4 and 5, where he performed his protest track "Hind's Hall" and chanted "Free Palestine." Sheeran has since finished shows in Philadelphia without an opener, telling fans he wants his sets to focus on "unity and humanity." Meanwhile, Macklemore is moving on and officially starting his own "Free Palestine Tour" across Dublin, Paris, and London this October, with proceeds going to humanitarian support.
