A wild success story in West London

Big news for the local wildlife scene: the two baby beavers (aka kits) born this year in Ealing need names, and they want you to decide. If you’re living in London and between the ages of four and 18, it’s giving main character energy because your naming skills are officially being put to the test.

Why it matters

The Eurasian beaver family was brought to Paradise Fields back in 2023, marking their big comeback to urban London after being gone for over 400 years. Elliot Newton, the director of rewilding at the conservation group Citizen Zoo, shared that these new kits prove that these creatures can totally coexist with humans in the middle of the city. Lowkey, they’ve already been doing the most: their presence has created new wetlands, boosted water quality, and helped the area handle flooding and droughts better.

Dr. Sean McCormack, who leads the project, is hyped to see what names come in. If you want to drop a suggestion, you have until December 7. The winning names will be picked by the Ealing Beaver Project crew and the Mayor of London's office. Say less, let’s get those beavers some iconic names.
