It’s a sad day for Bayside High fans. Dennis Haskins, the actor who lived rent-free in our collective childhoods as Principal Richard Belding on Saved by the Bell, has passed away at 75. His longtime agent, Jay Schachter, confirmed the news today.
While details on the cause of death are still TBD, the impact he had on his fans is undeniable. Schachter shared a heartfelt tribute, saying, "He was a great person, and he loved, I mean absolutely LOVED his fans. He always had time for them, no matter what."
The man behind the catchphrase
If you grew up watching Zack Morris, A.C. Slater, and Screech get into trouble, you know exactly who Mr. Belding was. Haskins kept the chaos at Bayside in check across nearly 90 episodes from 1989 to 1992. He also reprised his iconic role in Saved by the Bell: The New Class, the Hawaiian Style TV movie, and the show’s precursor, Good Morning, Miss Bliss.
Beyond Bayside, Haskins kept busy with roles in projects like A Million Ways to Die in the West and Trailer Park Shark. Locally, he was a massive vibe at Dimples Karaoke in Burbank, which he treated as his "second home."
