The On-Chain War Chest

The midterms are officially 22 days out, and the crypto-aligned political machine is shifting into high gear. Fairshake, the major PAC backed by heavy hitters like Coinbase, Ripple Labs, and Cantor Fitzgerald, is dropping bags of cash to back candidates who are actually tapped into digital asset policy.

Fresh filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) reveal that Fairshake affiliates—Defend American Jobs and Protect Progress—dropped a cool $2.7 million over the weekend. The funds are earmarked for media and direct mail campaigns to support both Democratic and Republican hopefuls for the House of Representatives.

Where the Money’s Going

The spend is specifically targeting key players. We’re talking over $76,000 for House Majority Whip Tom Emmer and $73,000 for House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn Thompson. The PAC also threw significant support behind Representative Pete Aguilar ($512,000) and Representative Josh Gottheimer ($500,000).

This follows Fairshake’s recent announcement that they’re backing an additional 32 candidates, with plans to drop $1 million in media support for six specific hopefuls. As of August, Fairshake reported a massive $122 million in cash on hand. It’s giving "we aren’t messing around," especially when you consider they’ve already allocated $30 million to try and unseat Sherrod Brown in Ohio’s Senate race because of his history of voting against industry-friendly bills.

The CLARITY Connection

Real talk: this spending isn't random. Every candidate receiving this boost voted for the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act in 2025. That bill was meant to give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission more authority to regulate the space. Even though the bill passed the House with bipartisan vibes, it hit a wall in the Senate last month.

Now, Stand With Crypto—an initiative from Coinbase—is signaling that politicians who let legislation stall could face "consequences" at the ballot box. They are actively mobilizing the crypto-native voter base to make sure these midterm results align with their goals.

Why it matters

Regulation is the make-or-break factor for the future of the industry. These PACs are betting big that pouring capital into House races will create a more favorable regulatory landscape on-chain. But remember, political spending is just that—spending. It’s not financial advice, and the outcome of any election is never a guarantee for market performance. DYOR and stay skeptical of the hype.
