The Vibe Shift
If you thought Chanel was all about that "quiet luxury" aesthetic that’s been dominating our feeds for years, it’s time to rethink. Artistic director Matthieu Blazy just celebrated his one-year anniversary at the house, and the latest Paris show was highkey serving joy. Think bold colors, cereal-aisle patterns, and a total departure from the brand's more rigid past.
Why It’s Giving Joy
Blazy isn't trying to be the tortured artist here; he’s leaning into happiness. The show was set under 95 giant white birds suspended in the Grand Palais, an idea he pulled from a holiday in southern Italy. He even tapped Nicole Kidman for the soundtrack, featuring a reading from Virginia Woolf’s To The Lighthouse. "Fashion was women’s homemade remedy for the dark times," Blazy said.
He dug into the archives to find a side of Gabrielle Chanel that most people don’t know: her fun, playful side. You’ll see zebra-striped pumps, yellow polka dots, and a focus on pieces that feel personal. He even showed off a version of the iconic 2.55 handbag—the literal one owned by Gabrielle herself, patina and all.
The 'Punk' Chanel
One of the biggest highlights? The classic soft-shouldered suit worn with absolutely nothing underneath. Blazy says he wanted to make it feel like "perfume," adding that wearing it directly on the skin gives the suit a little bit of a "punk" edge. He’s also experimenting with fabric tech, creating smocked silk that finally brings a genuinely sporty feel to the brand.
Why it matters
Chanel is currently sitting at the top spot on the Lyst index of the world’s hottest brands, and for good reason. With 16% growth in the first half of 2026, Blazy is clearly doing something right. He’s managed to make one of the most storied houses on the planet feel fresh and relevant again, proving that you don’t have to sacrifice prestige to have a little fun. Say less.
