The vibes in East Rutherford are officially off. After a rough couple of weeks, the New York Giants just caught another massive L, and this one might be the most brutal yet. Star pass rusher Brian Burns is reportedly done for the 2026 season after suffering a suspected torn ACL in Sunday’s win over the Tennessee Titans, according to NFL Network.
The play that changed everything
It happened with about 11 minutes left on the clock during a Titans play where QB Cam Ward connected with Tony Pollard. Burns went down immediately, clearly in a lot of pain. What makes this extra tragic is that the 28-year-old was already playing through a left ankle sprain he picked up during last week’s loss to the L.A. Rams. Talk about main character energy—he was pushing through, but his right knee just couldn't hold up.
Testing the depth chart
Burns was coming off a massive year where he dropped 16.5 sacks, and he’d already logged four tackles and four pressures through three games this season. Now, the Giants are going to have to rely on their depth to keep the pressure on. Look for guys like Abdul Carter, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Arvell Reese to step up and carry the load.
What it means for the season
This is a straight-up nightmare for the squad. With starting QB Jaxson Dart already out for the year after his own knee surgery, the Giants are now missing their two absolute best players. It’s a total shift in the energy for a team that started the season with high hopes under head coach John Harbaugh. They pulled off a massive upset against Dallas in Week 1, but now the mission looks way harder.
Why it matters
Losing your top pass rusher and your starting QB in the same month is an absolute gut-punch. With both sides of the ball now missing their primary weapons, the Giants have to figure out a new identity fast if they want to save their 2026 campaign.
