The shop is back

Get ready for a serious blast from the past because the Barbershop franchise is officially making its return. Amazon Prime Video just announced that the brand-new comedy series will drop all eight episodes on February 10, and honestly, the vibes are looking immaculate.

What’s the tea?

The show follows Travis “Trav” Walker, played by Jermaine Fowler, as he heads back to Chicago with one goal in mind: honoring his grandfather’s legacy at the iconic Calvin’s Barbershop. But, like, plot twist: the shop has changed, and so has the city. Trav has to navigate his new reality while dealing with a fresh crew of barbers and local customers who have opinions on literally everything. It’s giving sharp fades and even sharper takes.

The cast is stacked

The lineup is highkey insane. Alongside Fowler, we’ve got Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman. If that wasn’t enough, the guest star list is also absolutely stacked with names like Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Ziwe, and Tituss Burgess. The show is being run by Marshall Todd and Max Searle, with Kevin Hart serving as an executive producer.

Why it matters

This is the second time Barbershop has made the jump to TV, following a short-lived Showtime sitcom. With the original film franchise grossing nearly $200 million worldwide, the legacy is huge. Whether you’re a day-one fan or just looking for your next binge, this revival is ready to show us that the community at the barbershop is still the main character.
