The 'Godfather' downfall

Real talk: Adam Iza—the 26-year-old who legit called himself 'The Godfather'—has been handed another 78-month prison sentence. This latest L comes on top of his existing 15-year bid for an attempted Bitcoin robbery. The new time runs concurrent to his current sentence, so he’s not adding extra time to his total stay, but the feds made it clear they aren't playing with him.

The scams and the scheme

Iza’s rap sheet is honestly unhinged. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy against rights, wire fraud, and tax evasion. Between 2020 and 2022, he hacked Meta business manager accounts, sold that access to ad companies, and left Meta to eat the bill for fake ads. The grift brought in $37 million, and he tried to move those bags into crypto custodians to keep them hidden from the IRS. He straight up didn't file any corporate returns, causing the tax man a $13.2 million loss.

Cops for hire

Perhaps the wildest part of the plot? Iza was paying off-duty Los Angeles sheriff's deputies to act as his personal goons. He used these officers to pull private law enforcement records and track down people he had beef with, even going as far as using court-authorized search warrants to harass his rivals. Five deputies have already been convicted for their roles in this mess. Prosecutors didn't mince words, noting that money doesn't buy you the right to use badges or warrants for personal drama.

Collateral damage

Iza’s inner circle got caught in the crossfire too. His former girlfriend, Iris Rabaya Au, is serving 18 months for her involvement. The authorities are seizing a serious haul from the operation, including luxury whips, high-end handbags, and literal 'Godfather' sculptures.

Why it matters

This is a major reminder that on-chain activity isn't a get-out-of-jail-free card. Trying to hide funds in crypto to dodge taxes or using illegal muscle to settle disputes will eventually catch up to you. Don't be a degen—the law is always watching the ledger.
