We're going back to Hillman!
Grab your gear and get ready because the reboot of A Different World has officially been renewed for a second season on Netflix. After the first season had us lowkey obsessed and landed in the worldwide Top 10, the streaming giant is giving us another semester at Hillman College.
What to expect
The show picks up after those transformative summers, with Deborah (Maleah Joi Moon) and her crew returning to campus. The vibe for Season 2? A total 'New Year, New Me' energy, but knowing these characters, they are definitely going to find themselves tangled in a whole lot of new mess. We're talking fresh romantic drama, uncertain futures, and those deep questions of purpose that hit way too close to home.
The OG energy
Creator and showrunner Felicia Pride shared that the team is ready to keep telling stories that resonate with everyone. Meanwhile, legendary director and EP Debbie Allen, who helmed 83 episodes of the 1987-1993 original, was hyped about the news, saying, “YAY! HALLELUJAH! The people and Netflix have spoken.”
The series features a stellar cast including Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece, and Chibuikem Uche. Plus, we’re still getting all the nostalgic feels with OG stars like Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, and Jada Pinkett Smith back in the mix.
Why it matters
This show has successfully managed to bridge the gap between two generations. It’s managed to pay serious homage to the original icon while keeping the storytelling fresh and timely, proving that the magic of Hillman College is still very much alive and rent-free in our heads.
