On September 16, a woman filming her dinner prep for a Mississippi-style pot roast made a discovery that would haunt anyone’s nightmares. While holding up her jar of Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini, she dropped a bombshell: "There's a dead baby mouse in my peperoncinis."
The Fallout
Following the video, the company issued a voluntary recall through the Food and Drug Administration. The recall specifically targets 32-ounce jars of Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini (Medium Heat) that might contain "pest contamination."
Mezzetta confirmed they’ve already reached out to the customer and are moving fast to contain the issue. The good news? The company says they haven't received any reports of people getting sick or injured from the product so far. Mezzetta claims the recall is limited to a single production lot. They’ve already told retail partners to yank the affected jars off the shelves and are working with the FDA to get to the bottom of how this even happened. They’ve also requested the original jar back to investigate, and they say they've identified other customers who received products from that same batch to ensure they're removed from sale.
