In-N-Out is looking to expand its footprint in Southern California with a new location in West LA. The company recently filed permits with the City of Los Angeles to tear down a strip of existing businesses at 2927-2969 Sepulveda Boulevard in Rancho Park. The proposed build is a 3,890-square-foot facility complete with a drive-thru and outdoor seating.
The fallout
If the plan gets the green light, several local businesses are getting the boot, including Honesto Café, Banter Bar, a boxing studio, a nail salon, a hair salon, and a tattoo shop. Lowkey, the logistics are messy—the project needs zoning changes to allow parking on residential land, plus a special permit because the drive-thru would sit right next to a residential area. The filing estimates this location will pull in at least 500 extra car trips every single day. That’s a lot of traffic, no cap.
The competition
This isn't just about burgers; it’s giving a corporate turf war. The new spot would be located just off the 405-10 interchange, putting it in direct competition with Hamburger Habit, a local staple that has been serving up 50s-style vibes since 1990.
Why it matters
This expansion comes on the heels of In-N-Out’s recent L in Culver City, where the City Council slapped an emergency 10-month moratorium on new drive-thrus. Residents there were highkey stressed about traffic, air quality, and lines.
